Darned if this thing doesn't work exactly as described. I fill it about halfway with dried mealworms and bluebird nuggets. I've had 4 bluebirds at a time trying to squeeze in. Now they mostly wait their turn on nearby branches, but often one will be inside while another feeds from the perch. Squirrels try to fit their sneaky little heads inside but so far no progress (beyond a few chew marks). There was one immature bluebrd who got hung up inside for 15 minutes or so and couldn't figure out how to exit the bottle, but everyone is doing just fine now. This replaced a previous bluebird feeder that had exposed cups that the squirrels and blue jays would spill on the ground and trash as soon as I would fill it. Highly recommended---helps to keep the bluebirds around through the winter here in New England!

The bluebirds love this feeder. I've had 3 in the jar at the same time. I do have some starlings that stick their neck in.

I live in the suburbs in Dublin, Ohio and I bought this in hopes of attracting some of the Bluebirds I have seen on a not-so-regular basis. I was completely shocked that all weekend, 6 Bluebirds were going nuts for this feeder. They emptied it out 3 times already. 2 of them fought inside the feeder at first (which worried me) but then they all began to take turns waiting on my patio fence and even on my Christmas lights. They are so fun to watch - this feeder purchase was a big success and totally worth it. I posted pictures and videos on Facebook and a lot of people wanted to know where I got this feeder so I sent them to Duncraft's website. Best birdfeeder I have ever purchased!

Love this bluebird feeder. No blackbirds or grackles since they can't access the mealworms, and they have given up. I love the quality. We feel like it is money well spent.

Keeps the mealworms dry in the winter/rain.
