Attract Beautiful Bluebirds

The bluebird is one of our most beautiful and beloved birds! David Thoreau said the bluebird “carries the sky upon it’s back”, and the bluebird’s song is sometimes described as a melodious “cheer, cheer, cheerful, charmer"—and he definitely is! Attract these insect-eating birds with suet, suet nuggets or their favorite food—mealworms! Bluebirds are also attracted by housing. Place houses at least 100 feet away from any other bluebird houses in the area as bluebirds can be very territorial. Pairing two houses 5-15 feet apart is successful when competing swallows are present. Swallows will claim one box, allowing bluebirds to use the other.
