Lovely little feeder with only one problem: If you are using live meal worms - they escape. Well, two problems, actually: The plastic sides will come out - I find them on the ground. It is lovely, however.

Jurt now purchasing a second unit for the back yard- we hung our first in our feeding site last winter, and it only took 2-3 for the winter bluebirds to find it. We have kept it up this spring, and it has attracted other bird species that we have not seen before- which is fine with us. We are putting a second one out back where the bird houses are located (so far- no bears) The bluebirds go right inside with ease, contrary to other reviewers- I have also attached a flat plastic squirrel cover at the hanging point- it keep the snow out- as well Extremely happy with this piece- Kennebunk, Maine

Contrary to its description, this feeder does NOT prevent larger, more aggressive birds from entering and interrupting bluebirds while they eat. I bought Duncraft's Songbird Mealworm Magnet before I realized how much the larger birds would monopolize the feeder, so I bought this one thinking it would solve that problem. My bluebirds adapted to it within a day or two and really enjoy it; unfortunately, so do the starlings and mockingbirds (although the crows do leave it alone, which is an improvement). I'm a big fan of the Duncraft brand and this is a quality product, but it doesn't live up to its claims as far as keeping larger birds out. Maybe one of the other options would work better.

My eastern bluebirds refuse any meal worm except a LIVE one. Considering the price of this feeder seems it would come with a companion 1 inch deep dish to sit in bottom. Would be perfect if made of clear material like sides, so that mealies do not quickly escape. However it is a PRETTY feeder crafted with true Duncraft Quality, I will eventually find just the glass dish that fits.
