Bluebird houses should be located in open areas or at the edge of a pasture, field or orchard, where bluebirds can see the ground-dwelling insects they thrive on.
Place houses 4-5 feet high, preferably on a pole. To set up a bluebird trail for Eastern bluebirds, place several houses 100-150 yards apart. For Mountain and Western bluebirds, place houses at least 300 yards apart.
