Smaller birds love them but they are fragile too
I love watching chickadee and nuthatch and downy woodpeckers, feed at these, and even see Northern Cardinal and other small birds visit them. They seem to help keep seed dry, even if the little plastic seal for the fill opening goes missing or gets damaged by squirrels or big birds. However, they are relatively thin plastic. That means they are easy to hang and don't weight feeder arms down. But it also means that if they do get knocked down in windstorms or by other means, they tend to get cracked. Also, the plastic around the feeder ports gets gnawed on, which means some of the seed just spills onto the ground. Maybe Duncraft could get the supplier to consider adding narrow metal collars around the feeder ports. Anyway, even if they are somewhat damaged, I've kept them up because birds still can feed from them and seem to enjoy it.

Good for finches
Attracts lots of finches using sunflower kernels. They are definitely not grackle-proof. They've figured it out and eat a lot of seed.

Merchant Response

Glad to hear that the finches are enjoying this feeder. We don't actually state that it's grackle proof, but we know that starlings aren't fans of it and it is pigeon-proof.

Chickadees, titmice --and house finches learned to use them
I have found that my birds prefer the nut and berry variety of seeds over plain black oil sunflower seeds in my cling-a wing feeders. The large pieces do fall down all right. The feeders are large enough that refills don't need to be made more than once a week or less, because the large birds can't use them.

Small clinging birds, no large bird competition a
I use this year round for black oil sunflower. I hang them from the soffit in front of windows. It helps to deter squirrels. I use a large #1 fishing line swivel attached at the top of about 12-18 inches of thin wire to keep it moving, which also keeps larger birds discouraged. I have used them for years. One improvement that I made was using a 35 mm film canister to block the fill hole. It works much better than the flimsy plastic cap and does not blow off. I also use the top of a 2 liter pop bottle as a funnel to fill it. It makes filling the feeders much easier.

Review of Cling-a-Wings Globe feeder
It is Eur. Starling proof, I can serve shelled peanuts to the small clinger birds; the Starling is too big to be able to pillage the feeder. It's a great feeder but I gave it 4 stars as it can be difficult to fill; I set it on top of a round top of a jar so it stays upright and does not roll around, it would be nice if it came with it's own stabilizing stand for filling. Yes, I would recommend to a friend, Starling proof makes it a great feeder, I own three of them.
