Invite hummingbirds to nest

Want to attract hummingbirds to nest nearby? Our Hummingbird House mimics the “forked” tree branches of a hummingbird’s preferred nesting location. Features a leaf "umbrella" for overhead protection with a landing branch and starter nesting material. Our Hummingbird House has proven successful with the following species: Anna’s Hummingbirds, Black-chinned, Broad-tailed, Magnificent and common Ruby-throated Hummingbirds. Mount under your eaves or in a corner. You receive two metal nesting frames because hummingbirds often start two nests, only to choose the least windy location. 2-1/2 x 3 inches tall.

These WORK-!
The prompt given me for a headline was that I WOULD buy one of these nesters after another, but I can go well beyond that and say that I HAVE bought 8 already & these next 2 will make 10. Come summer we've removed 19 nests from them, now sitting on our mantel. Although Anna's re-use their own nests & black-chinned re-use those nests shortly after, when the heat comes we do want to keep nests clean. The hangers I easily clean from a ladder. By now we are on our 6th generation of birds, the most popular nesters being 2 hung in the eaves outside my bathroom & bedroom, another outside the door we use most often, areas close to abutilon bushes and, above all, cuphea. Siblings will nest very near each other & are far less territorial given all the food we supply. We have also hung have 3 of the cute nesters that look like houses, but although used, they are not as popular. I suspect this preference is because they do like to fly straight UP if alarmed & even the tiny roof discourages some. The clear reward is that by now we are on our 6th generation of birds who, having been eggs & fledglings who continually see & hear us, they not in the least shy; indeed they come down & inspect the faces under our sun-hats to make certain we're their friendly gardeners, then they virtually garden with us. On summer mornings when they feed, we are surrounded by some 20 to 30 birds of all ages We do use feeders in winter, but because we're in San Diego, we've been able to find plants that bloom year-round, including many salvia. What they appear to like even more than feeders are the hangers which, after a few banana peels & prunes and such, produce insects, which of course they crave for protein. We have great fun watching the birds watch those hangers and suddenly dart out to catch a fruit fly. Although we have a great many fruit trees, the birds make certain that the bugs have never been a problem, and come summer we take them down. I tend to be slow to praise, but these are GREAT-!
