Seed does not flow through the holes that allow the birds to access the seeds. I started with black oil sunflower seed. No seeds fell through. Switched to sunflower pieces - still not falling through. Not sure what to try to get the seeds into the ports for the birds.

I've had one of these for years. Sadly the bears destroyed my first one and attacked the second but I made repairs using parts from the first and it is still defying Squirrels. They are able to chew the very top of the roof cone so I made an aluminum cone for protection. It works! I applied Rain-X to the roof which makes it extra slippery and helps shed snow and ice.

I have tried so many "squirrel-proof" feeders, that I was convinced the idea was impossible. Just as I started to think this was the answer, I saw a squirrel sitting on feeder tray! That was nearly a year ago. I raised the feeder after that incident, and have not seen one on there since - and not for lack of them trying! It's fun to watch them fly off, then sit on the ground looking up and wondering what just happened. For the most part, they now just sit under the feeder and eat what the birds share with them. The birds love the feeder and my seed bills are way down! Probably enough to have paid for this feeder by now. I absolutely love this feeder.

A bit pricey but after seeing the big fat grey squirrels leaping 6 feet to the feeder and then flying/falling off.... :) Aaaahhhh... no squirrels since! :) I had to order a tray (a deep dish) and install that to the bottom of the feeder. Birds were a bit intimidated by this feeder (the cover as it does come down quite low) but now my female cardinal finally will feed from it! Even the nuthatches will grab a seed out of the feeder-holes while on the perches. They ALL prefer the tray (except the finches) but will use the perches now.
