Watch a squirrel's weight close the feeding ports

When a squirrel jumps up to grasp the perch, the squirrel’s weight pulls the feeding ports closed. The built-in baffle prevents squirrel access from above and shelters your feeding birds from the weather. Squirrel-proof and the overhanging baffle keeps the seed dry in wet and windy weather. Includes hanging cable. Copper colored metal top and perch assembly. 9 inch diameter overall. 13 inches tall.

  • 3-1/2 lb. capacity with 4 feeding ports
  • Attract birds & block squirrels with the weight-activated perches
  • Features clear plastic reservoir & clear baffle for viewing the seed levels
  • Remove the roof for filling from the top

Keeps seed dry in winter
Small birds love this feeder. Chickadees and finches took to it no problem. The cardinals and other larger birds prefer my other feeders. Best part is it keeps the seed dry in the winter. It gets so windy in Chicago that the snow blows sideways. Ice and snow clogged up my other hanging feeders but this one was perfect. I will be getting a second one as well.

Not squirrel proof
This is not squirrel proof or else there are very smart squirrels around my house. I have noticed the squirrel trying to get the food. I looked over today when I saw my cat looking at the feeder and saw the squirrel inside where the food is. I was wondering how he would get out and saw him hit the metal top with his head and climb out of the feeder. I wish I had my camera handy at the time to get a picture of it.

Keeps seed dry
I found, with mixed seed, the birds will more readily use this feeder, if same seed is not offered in another seed feeder. I also place an open ground feeder under this feeder to catch any falling seeds. It also helps keeps sparrows from wasting seed as opposed to a platform feeder.

difficult for some birds to feed
The cardinals and bluejays have not been able to get any of the seeds. There has not been any activity, although our other feeder has been very busy.

A feeder that lives up to its name
This feeder lived up to my standards! In rainy Seattle it kept my seed completely dry! The squirrels cannot get at the seed, though I hung it in a Vine Maple which branches are almost vertical. This is so because when it tried to climb down, it slipped on the baffle, and when it tried to grab the perch, the seed ports closed. Definitely a thumbs up! However, song sparrows cannot get on the perches because the baffle comes too low (nor can the juncos, but they are ground feeders so set out a feeder special for them). The chickadees have no problem though, nor do the house finches or pine siskins.
