Over the past 25 years, we've been very happy with this feeder. Our first one, purchased in 1996, lasted almost 20 years and it was very effective in keeping out the large gang of rodents (squirrels) that visit our back yard. We're on our 2nd and I'm sorry to see that it's no longer available here on Duncraft. Once our second one bites the dust, not sure we will be able to find a suitable replacement.

The is the only feeder we've found that our squirrels haven't gotten into, once we fixed the problem as it comes from the factory. The squirrels figured out they they could reach up to the top of the window and lift their weight off the perch and eat away. Also, the flying squirrels, which we are happy to feed, could climb over the window and hang out inside. The fix was to take a piece of aluminum dryer vent pipe, cut it to shape, and attach it over the window so it fits tight to the top and fills the opening above the window. That keeps the squirrels from getting a grip there, and alos keeps the flying squirrels out on the perch where they belong. So four years later that still works.

I love this feeder. I've tried others and have learned a hard lesson on one thing, cleaning a bird feeder can be unbelievably difficult unless you have a feeder like this where you can remove part of it for cleaning. After a rain or hard snowfall I have to clean the wet stuff out and add fresh it drives me crazy having wet bird seed. The feeder I'm replacing is bolted to a post and I have to be a contortionist to try and clean it. this will be my second Super Stop A Squirrel feeder and am counting the days until it arrives. No feeder can stop squirrels period. They still can get some seed but they have to work for it and they can't feast on an endless supply they eventually tire of working and move on. Flying squirrels have an easier time but that's no big deal their adorable.

The design does not allow squirrels a foothold when they jump on top. Raccoons also cannot anchor themselves to pull food from the feeder. We installed it on a pole, with a 4 inch stovepipe around the pole, ground to the bottom of the feeder. Squirrels and raccoons cannot grip pipe to climb up from bottom, (lots of muddy paw prints around bottom of pipe show that it has been tried). All birds happy!

This is the only real squirrel proof feeder I have owned!
