Great feeder
I didn't use this feeder as intended. I wanted something to protect my Finch Socks from damage. I removed a few of the perch sticks, and inserted a filled finch sock. I protects it and its openings are big enough for finches or small birds to take seeds. It works great, and I like the metal.

Needs Surrounding Cage
I love this product for the ease of filling and durability. Unfortunately, I was surprised that the large, nuisance birds (i.e. Common Grackles, Blackbirds, Starlings) easily cling to opening and retrieve the nuggets. I think if it is placed inside a wide cage the problem would be solved. Thank you!

Peanut in shell feeder
This is made for small food pellets but I have never used it for that purpose. I discarded the perches and simply fill it with roasted and unsalted peanuts in the shell. This gets a steady non-stop flow of chickadees, nuthatches and several woodpecker species. They have to really work at it but they stick with it and in 2 or 3 weeks the shells are mostly picked clean. It is really fun to watch the birds at thus feeder.
