Love the feeder ... except ...
I purchased this "new model", very attractive, heavy-duty, well-constructed feeder from the Duncraft online store. I filled it with peanuts in the shell, a no-waste mix, and safflower seed. It holds a lot and, consequently, is pretty heavy when filled. As soon as I finished filling it, I knew I would have to take off one star in my review because the feeder's top came completely off twice while we were attempting to hang it on our 4-arm feeder pole. In my opinion there is a design flaw ... the way the top closes is to line up 3 nubs on the feeder with slots on the lid and then twist the lid to slide the nubs into slots. But because the slots are wide, there is too much play when the top is supposedly closed, so it never feels snugly locked in place. I fear a windy day or a riot of starlings could easily untwist the lid and down will go the feeder, dumping mass quantities of $$ seed. Despite my trepidation, I like the feeder so much that I don't want to return it. Instead, I'll ask my hubby to perhaps elongate the slots with a dremel tool so the nubs can be snugged into thinner slots to tighten the closure, or whatever workaround he can come up with. On the whole, I could recommend this feeder to anyone willing to modify the closure design.
