Delight your smaller birds

Smaller songbirds shy away from feeders frequented by larger birds. Discourage gray squirrels and larger birds with our all-metal wire caging and squirrel lock metal cap, since they can’t reach the seed. Small birds enter the 1-1/2 inch fly-through openings to perch and feed. Includes wire hanger with a solid metal roof to keep your seed dry during wet weather. There's open caging on the bottom, so seed won’t accumulate. 10-1/2 inch diameter. 11-1/2 inches tall.

  • Holds 1 lb. of seed with 4 feeding ports
  • Attract finches & others, while keeping out larger birds
  • Features fly-through openings to discourage gray squirrels
  • Easy filling from the top, without disassembly
  • Available exclusively at Duncraft

Only one problem...
My feeders were plagued with squirrels and crows. The crows would clean out a feeder in 2 hours. The squirrels would chew through the plastic tube feeders. I changed to using only safflower seed in this "caged" feeder. Within two weeks, the crows and squirrels were gone. They even stopped trying. I haven't seen a crow in a month. The problem is that this feeder is VERY DIFFICULT to clean. There was an inch-thick "cake" of moldy seed stuck at the bottom of the feeder. I used a meat skewer that I poked through the bottom perches to hack at the "cake," chopping it into pieces that finally fell through the top of the feeder when I turned it upside down. I didn't want to unscrew the "cage" because I was worried that I wouldn't be able to reassemble it. I wonder if the good folks at Duncraft can modify this otherwise excellent feeder so that perhaps the bottom of the feeder tube can snap open to allow for cleaning. This a terrific feeder in all other respects.

not red squirrel proof
I get many birds at my feeder. The small birds do not seem to be fazed by it. The bluejays don't fit but red squirrels do! It is not bear proof!

Definitely Discourages Squirrels
This feeder has not been a success. The smaller birds can get in it, but prefer a more open feeder. The cardinals, towhees, and titmice seem to be very frustrated by it, and have left our yard. The squirrels can not get in!
