Made the mistake of using this as a ground feeder while bears were in the area. Point 1 is that Duncraft offers to sell you a replacement "grill" (top portion) of this feeder for only about $11 + shipping, which is great. But point 2 is that i decided to instead cut some larger holes in my damaged grill (using a wire cutter) and use this as a hanging feeder instead (on a squirrel proof baffle pole such as item # 2414). Have not been able to entice cardinals to use this as a hanging feeder yet, but many small- to medium-size birds (including smaller woodpeckers) can now feed easily without the blue jays pushing them out. Very happy with my re-purposed "ground" feeder.

This feeder does exactly what it is designed to do. Keeps squirrels out. I filled it too full the first time and they were able to get their little paws in there to get seed. I did ask if cardinals would fit and the answer was yes but so far after a month I haven't seen any in there. I do have other feeders for the squirrels. I have purchased one for my daughter for Christmas for her deck. Cats won't be able to leave the doors watching them. This is the second review I've written, hope this one is posted.

I really like this feeder. I did ask before I bought it if cardinal would fit and was told they could. So far I haven't seen any in there and it's been out for two weeks. They walk around it and on top but not in. First time I filled it too much and little squirrel paws could reach in and scoop out seed. All other birds enjoy it. I'm going to buy another one for my daughter for Christmas. Especially like that it's recycled and made in USA. Will be perfect for her deck with porch and deck seed. Her cats will be thrilled.
