Not working for what I wanted
I bought this to feed the wrens that traditionally nest in my birdhouse. I bought the dried worms and set it up near the nesting area. The worms seemed to disappear so I thought they were eating them but then found a red squirrel was really the culprit and some other birds like tufted titmouse that seemed to like the worms. But never have seen the wrens go into it. I carefully covered the feeder with chicken wire to keep the squirrel out and allow only the little wrens in but still have not seen them in it. They use it as a perch. The worms I put in are still there. So I'm disappointed needless to say. Perhaps they would like the live ones better but not sure I want to waste the money. Tho I'm sure I have lots of other birds that would eat them.

Cardinals love it!
I love that the cardinals and other smaller birds use this feeder but the doves and jays don't. It has saved me a ton on seed! It has a mesh bottom so the seeds get plenty of air, which is especially important in these humid summer months. The only drawback is that the base does not come off for cleaning.

Crazy Bird Lady
Another Duncraft winner
Bought this to discourage the bully birds but I've learned they can share with the little fellows. The big guys can't enter it but they can stick their head near the edge to get some of the goodies. Once they can't reach past that edge they leave it alone. I use it for the heaver fruit nut mixes that don't do well in tube feeders. I bought a separate squirrel baffle to protect it from the elements. Wish the tray was removable for cleaning but as it is I can still get to it with a little scrub brush. Duncraft always offers a good product. Thanks for this one.

The lady who loves birds!
I Would Buy This Product Again
I needed a feeder to keep out the DOVES & larger birds, such as the grackles & it worked! I no longer have a problem with the DOVES! On occasion, a grackle will stop by and try to test it out. They can grab a seed or two from the edges, but soon learn to leave it alone. I enjoy seeing the blue jay stopping by to pick up a shelled peanut or two. My tufted titmouse, nuthatch, chickadees, song sparrows, and woodpeckers all love this feeder! Unfortunately, the cardinals have not figured out how to use this type of feeder. What I have done to try to keep the squirrels away, is serve safflower seeds, along with hot pepper sunflower seeds. Sometimes, I will mix other varieties of seed in, and (mostly) the squirrels will ignore it - at least for a while - and then it is back to the main menu. The feeder is easy to use, clean and take care of. It has a very good drainage system at the bottom. So, if you have a problem with the big, bully birds or DOVES, this is the feeder for you! Yes, it is expensive - but it brings all the birds I want to see at the feeder.

Why I think this is a GREAT feeder
This product is GREAT...holds any variety of seed you want...I put suet in the middle, for warblers and such, The grackles can't reach it and go away.( NO DOVES, which were a problem on my open tray feeder)Cardinals can get inside too. Even the woodpeckers can reach in for a snack. This feeder will save money on seed..from having larger birds clean out the feeders all day, and saving nothing for our smaller birds. A bit expensive, but built to last of great materials. If you like Bluejays, add another feeder just for the larger birds, as the jays can't seem to figure out, they can get a few seeds around the edges if they tried. I recommend this feeder. Mine is on a pole feeder with a squirrel baffle..(I think hung where squirrels can get it would be a problem, as the side openings for "fly aways" they might squeeze though)
