No more bullies
I had a starling and grackle problem but no more with this feeder. Starlings will briefly latch on but the feeder has the added benefit of having smaller openings to prevent gorging. The bully birds just lose interest I think. The woodpeckers took to it immediately. One thing that I really love about this feeder is that it protects your suet from the elements. You can put both cakes still in their plastic trays in the feeder, which gives the birds more leverage, keeps your hands from getting too messy and keeps the feeder cleaner. The only con I can think of is that it's a little difficult to slide the mesh out to insert the suet but it's not a huge deal. I get it done just fine.

Different than others for squirrels
Here's what makes this different than all the other two suet block, upside down feeders. All the other ones have a cable on top for hanging that can't be shortened because the roof separates from the base to add the suet. This one the roof and base are one piece. I have a squirrel problem and need the feeder tucked under, as close as possible, to the dome/baffle . Otherwise the squirrel comes down from the top , sits in the center of the dome then slides off the side and grabs onto the suet feeders . With this feeder I can remove the cable and screw a hook into the roof to keep the feeder up under the dome. Duncraft is the only ones that make a double suet block feeder where I can do this. They are also the only ones that have a 20" CLEAR dome which I found. Anything smaller and the squirrel can get past. I did have a hard time finding this feeder on google the last two years though and would suggest Duncraft advertise something like " bottom fill /sliding mesh/grid " to help people find this as I can't be the only one in this situation. I also found Duncrafts 20" dome hard to find on google. There are however the easily found ugly 20" painted metal ones . Luckily my local bird store is where i've found the Duncraft clear one.
