I live in northern Ohio and have fed the birds year around for several decades using mainly oil sunflower seed with some "mix" in a large stationary feeder out in the back yard. When I hung the Duncraft Hearty Fruit and Nut Bell immediately the chickadees, nuthatches, tufted titmice, and downy woodpeckers flocked to it and ignored the backyard feeder all week. When the seed was gone the birds returned to the regular feeder. Then purchased a less expensive honey seed bird bell. Days went by and the same birds rarely pecked at it. Once again put up a new Hearty Fruit and Nut Bell instead and bingo, all the above birds devoured it while once again forsaking the regular feeder. I'm a believer at least for these species in my locale. (The fruit was not particularly the draw) I believe this is also called the Mrbird Christmas bell (????)
