Great concept, Poor design
The feeder is beautiful, and once my birds got used to it they were as happy as myself Until it rained. The four-post feeder locations on the upper feeder section were fine, BUT the lower floor feeding areas, (one on each side) flooded with rainwater. The two troughs designed to contain the food acted as little reservoirs and clogged up, then the remainder of the bottom-feeding area as well flooded. This resulted in the water backing up into the two bottom-feeding holes further clogging those to the point those two feeding points became unusable. I feed cracked medium sunflower chips in all my six regular feeders and nyjer/fine hulled sunflower chips in my three nyjer feeders. As previously mentioned, this feeder would be great in a non-rain climate, however, I live in southern Oregon, and although our annual rain fall in this particular micro-climate averages only 19 inches. I will have to modify the top of the feeder adding (I am guessing) a gutter type rim of about six inches. As well I may consider one of the Plexiglas domes I see at Wilde Birds Unlimited. Again, it's a wonderful feeder to are collection, BUT really a pain to clean after the rain. Thanks Tom
