I've used the larger versions of this type of feeder but finally realized deer were eating all the seed in the winter. So I switched to a mesh type feeder for winter. Now that the grackels and blackbirds have come back they have monopolized that feeder. This little red feeder is so cute and works really well against the blackbirds. NOTHING is squirrel proof, so I always set up a 2 baffle system above my feeders and that has finally worked. As for the deer...we'll see if they can get to this in winter. It's always something (or someone)!

I am a mid-range but frequent purchaser of bird feeders. While urban squirrels quickly popped all of the anti-squirrel measures, purchasing a 13" bungee cord has turned it into a squirrel proof feeder! Attach one end of the bungee on the hinged, roof lip; and stretch the other end over the front perch. The back perch will still be adjustable. And if you pick a red or red and yellow bungee, it looks like its part of the intended design.
