Woodpeckers love this feeder
My Downy Woodpeckers, nuthatches & chickadees LOVE this feeder and I've never had a squirrel successfully raid it. However because I have a Red-Bellied Woodpecker that also likes it, the weight setting I have the feeder set at is pretty forgiving. Unfortunately that also allows a European Starling on it. The Starlings only have a small slit that they are able to get at because of their weight, but they are so smart, and will stick their beak in the slit and then open their beak to enlarge opening and they'll quickly grab a nut before it shuts again. It's actually pretty fascinating, how they've adapted. The good thing about it is that normally a second Starling will land on the feeder and completely close it. Anyway it's a great feeder--super durable and the birds love it. I will have this feeder for years and years--so it's definitely worth the investment.

Good while it lasts
I have had this peanut feeder for about five years. It is very good as far as deterring the squirrels. I get mostly woodpeckers at it and the occasional chickadee. However now that it is getting older the bottom keeps falling off. There is a red washer that hopefully you can find once it drops on the ground and another screw type part that has to be screwed back on but even then it just keeps falling off. I will get another one because like I said it lasted about five years and the birds love it. It holds a lot of peanuts and depending on how many birds you get lasts a long time before you have to fill again. I have a suburban yard and moderate bird activity.

A Real Problem-Solver
This worked much better than expected. We use a mixture of shelled peanuts and C&S woodpecker suet nuggets in this feeder and it's become the most popular feeder we've ever used. The birds line up on the fence waiting their turn. In fact, I'm ordering a second one because there's so much action in our yard. We're in an urban environment with a small yard and tight quarters, so we were thrilled when we discovered this model. The flickers and downy woodpeckers took to it right away--we get more woodpeckers on this feeder than any other feeder we've ever used. We also get house finches and chickadees. Juncos feed underneath on whatever drops to the ground. The magpies and pigeons can't get on it and it does a pretty good job of keeping out starlings. So far it's completely foiled the squirrels. The only drawbacks I've noted are that it's hard to fill without spilling seed; it doesn't hold much seed (which means we have to fill it every day); and the mechanism seems to give out over time. But overall we're absolutely delighted with it. Thank you Duncraft!

Great Feeder
Almost as soon as we put this feeder out our birds found and claimed this feeder (within 30 minutes). We have tufted titmice, chickadees, white bellied nuthatches, downy and red bellied woodpeckers that line up to feed. It has been squirrel proof todate. We have only one problem with this feeder - it is so popular we find it hard to keep it filled but that is not a bad thing at all.
