I ordered this for feeding nyger. I don't know if the population of the little finches is down in our area; if there are natural sources of preferred foods (we get a lot less snow than we used to get); or if the finches I do get just don't like this feeder, but it is hardly used while my little old "slot type" nyger feeder does get used. I have this one in the location where I get the most birds at my feeders, and it just doesn't attract the birds. I am sure it's a successful feeder for others but it sure hasn't been for me, and I know that's not for lack of quality design and construction. I'd rate it five stars for quality but give it fewer because it just wasn't a good investment for me as a bird feeder.

This is a very nice looking, sturdy feeder. It's easy to fill and the drainage holes in the bottom are a great feature. However, the finches and smaller birds don't seem to like it. I've had it hanging for almost two weeks and the birds refuse to squeeze through the wire cage to get to the nyjer. I'm disappointed, especially after the cost. I'm hoping they become a little more curious/hungry/courageous and start eating from it. It really is a very nice feeder. I'm only giving it 4 stars just because it doesn't seem to "work" as described.
