Finally a suet feeder that protects suet for the little guys
It took a few weeks for the birds to get the hang of this one, as we expected. I placed some suet chunks in the bottom but those just got gobbled up by Starlings almost instantly. The first to figure it out were some LBBs, who couldn't get enough, then surprisingly a few wrens. Next our Titmouses caught on, and finally we have our Downy Woodpeckers visiting us regularly again. We lost them to the onslaught of relentless Starlings, and no suet feeder could work to keep out these pests. We had to give up the suet and hardly saw the woodpeckers or Titmouses after that. Lost our Mockingbirds too. Unfortunately this feeder can only do so much, and the Mockingbirds haven't managed to figure out the same methods as the bluejays, which is to sneak bites in around the edges from the outside. I occasionally catch a Starling trying to do the same but they aren't getting much, it's a major improvement considering the entire cakes isn't missing the following day. I will warn that the bluejays and squirrels have been chewing at the wire and taking the coating off the metal. I know that's not good for them but if they have plenty of other food they can go for, hopefully they give up on this soon, as it won't destroy the feeder, only make it look a little beat up up close. Overall I am in love it with it, as it brought the cute little woodpeckers back to us, which is the primary reason ai bought it.
