Watch woodpeckers feed upside down

Watch your birds cling and feed on suet upside down through the sturdy bottom wire grid openings. Feeding upside down is not preferred by starlings. Great for clinging birds like woodpeckers, nuthatches and chickadees. Our 5 x 5 inch wide housing unit shelters your suet cakes from the weather, so the suet lasts longer. The top squirrel lock keeps out critters, so there’s no waste. Durable tan and green recycled plastic. 6-1/4 x 6 x 9-3/8 inches tall overall with the wire hanger.

  • Protect up to 3 suet cakes from the weather
  • Attract clinging birds—your suet cakes won’t disappear as quickly
  • Features upside down feeding to restrict select suet-eating birds
  • Lift up the roof for easy cleanout & filling
  • Made in the USA, available exclusively at Duncraft

Hang it high!
I am a long-time Duncraft shopper. Like the other reviewers I have had trouble, especially this year, of being overrun by grackles, starlings, cowbirds and red-wing black birds. They gobble down the suet even from my Duncraft woodpecker suet feeder with the smaller screen openings. I got the Underneath Eco feeder and hung it where the other suet feeder had been. It took the little downy and hairy woodpeckers several attempts from the branches of the tree to figure out how to eat from it. Once they did, I moved it to the tall feeder pole I have that is quite a bit higher than where it had been in the tree. Then it was very easy for them to access. All was well UNTIL the red-winged black birds figured it out as well. Yes, they can cling and hang upside down too! At least the other black birds can't. I would still recommend this feeder, especially because it holds more suet cakes and is enclosed. With winter coming on that will be a plus up here in the "frozen North".

Great feeder but place correctly.
I thought this feeder was a bust placed on the shepards crook where I had a traditional suet holder. Seems they just didn't like being so close to the ground. Once I placed it on a higher feeder(8 feet) they flocked to it, feeding for far longer than they ever did on the lower traditional suet holder. Because this feeder holds three cakes and is protected from weather and grackles, I am feeding the right birds and spending less on wasted, melted, stolen suet. Great feeder if you can hang it high.

Fabulous!!! But....
I bought 2 of these because I was tired of the Starlings and Grackles devouring suet cakes in my traditional feeders in a matter of 30 or so minutes, not leaving any for my beloved Titmice, Jays or Woodpeckers. I bought these feeders and they really befuddled the Starlings and Grackles! They couldn't figure them out and the "good birds" were left to eat in peace..... For a day. The Grackles and Starlings have figured out how to hang on them and eat or hover from below BUT I will say the suet doesn't disappear as quickly. Regardless, they are VERY well made, the squirrel/racoon lock on top works and I feel these feeders will last me forever, like my others from Duncraft. (It's great for the environment too since it's recycled!)
